What does my name mean?

Lily Chambers

     AP Lang 4th Hour

What does my name mean?

Lily Ona Chambers is my title; who I am and what I'm growing everyday to become. What does being Lily Ona Chambers mean? Even I'm not sure yet. Growing everyday is my focus. Although, I may not fully understand who I will end up being, I do know how I want to make people feel and what kind of brainchildren I will leave people with when I leave this world. Being influential (if I'm honest) has never really attracted me.  Although, I have always wanted to better people's lives I've haven't enjoyed the spotlight that seems to follow closely behind. I've often wondered what people say behind closed doors when my name is mentioned. Ive also always wondered where my name comes from; ancestrally speaking as well as how it came about to be my parents choice for me.
I've always wanted to better people's lives in anyway  I could, even was I was a very small child. I remember one specific incident when I was approximately six years old and my mom was sick;  I was determined to help her so, without her knowledge I crept into the kitchen and attempted to peel her a carrot. The task was not successful as it ended in me slicing the tip of my pointer finger off; I still barely have a fingerprint on that finger 11 years later! This specific  incident is an example of how all my life I have been a people pleaser; not the best of traits at times but festered deep into my inner being.  My curiosity has also been focused on where my title came from.
Ever since I was a little girl I wondered where my name came from; how my parents chose it and why. It turns out that worldly speaking my name comes from England. In many different Latin derived languages Lily means purity and innocence while Chambers has it roots deep in English culture. I was especially inquisitive about my middle name so I decided to ask my mom about it as I've never heard of it before. Her response: that it came to her in a dream as an infant golden beetle that was named Ona. She had this oddity of dream when she about 7 months pregnant with me.
My name has always been apart of my personality, from my purity to my selflessness. I strive everyday to grow into and find out what being Lily Ona Chambers means at the very core. I've learned a lot about where my name is from both ancestrally and where/how my parents came up with Lily Ona Chambers and how it suites me.  In most challenging situations I have always tried to put the other person or people involved before myself. (Much as I did with peeling the carrot for my mother) I portray myself in such a  way because my hope is that when I leave this world  people will remember me as such; selfless, understanding and the one whom is always doing the right thing, even when people aren't watching; after all it's apart of my title.

                                       What was it about?
On the morning of November 14, 1959 in Holcomb, Kansa Susan Kidwell found the bodies of the Clutter family. Perry Smith and Dick Hickock are the murders. It is relieved that Perry was passed from home to home when he was younger and he has 3 siblings and 2 of which have committed suicide. The trial runs well because both of the men confess. The men are sentenced to death but it is 5 years before they are killed. During that time Perry tries to kill himself by starvation and Dick writes appeal letters to many organizations.

                                                                 What do I think?

http://bestsellers.about.com/od/nonfictionreviews/gr/InColdBlood_r.htm I agree with most of what was said about the book. I really agree and really like that it felt like a fiction read. I really enjoyed that Truman had us get to know the killers and the lives that they had lived, and showed us they wernt just terrible people. In Cold Blood was very detailed describing the murder which I liked even though this review says it was a con about the book.

This is a movie poster for In Cold Blood.

Whats the title have to do with it?
The Criminals
"In Cold Blood" to me was named so because of the upbringings and detached nature of Richard Eugene Hickock and Perry Edward Smith. The idea behind the title did change for me throughout the book because when I first started reading it I just thought it was named that because it was a good name for a murder book but as I read the book I realized that the title fits the characters so well.  The killings that they accomplished were just so detached and cold hearted and I believe that was a big factor for the title.
